FAKARAVA belongs to the Tuamotu islands in French Polynésia.
This atoll is constituted of an immense barrier of coral forming a ring that confines a lagoon of 60 km long and 25 km wide.
It is situated at
450 km from North Est of TAHITI, open on the ocean
by two opposed channels geographically:
North channel“Garuae”is
the largest one of Polynésia (1600 meters wide).Very big, she inspired
the name of the diving center: te ava nui (The infinite
channel).
South channel"Tumakohua",
200 meters wide.
ATOLL DISCOVERY:
At the north, near the airport:
the town of Rotoava where
the diving center is installed. Most of people are living there.
We propose you exits with picnic on the uninhabited
"motu" of the lagoon. In a preserved
heavenly natur, in small group, under the cocotiers, it is the life of
Robinson that you will approach: pink or white sand beaches, cristalline
water renewed by the North Pass.
If you like: visit a pearl farm(in the water or
above) and buy a pearl to the producer.
At the south, outing during 3 days, to dive in "Tumakohua"channel.

FAKARAVA PRACTICES:
Accomodation , pension or hotel, is independent of diving center.
Food: Essentially fishes or chicken
with rice or pasta. No many dairy product and no many fruit (Papayes,
bananes, coco, watermelons). Drinking water is rain water and usually
does not cause any digestive "problems". Nevertheless, it is
possible to buy mineral water in the 2 small village stores. So it is
also possible to improve the pension with cheese, cookies, chocolat, bier,
wine…
Mosquitoes: There
are no many mosquitoes in Fakarava .You can find in Papeete or in Fakarava
some products against these insects and the nono.
Sanitary: Fakarava does not know any
problems with water.You can wash and rinse your equipment.
Sun: More
than 3000 hours of sun in the year.
Foresee protective cream and cream after sun, hat or cap and sun glasses.
Change: 100 XPF= 0,84
€ (Euros). It is impossible in Fakarava to use credit card.
So, all the payments are cash in :pacific franc(xpf), Euros(€) and
$ U$.
No bank on the atoll, but a post office and 3 telephone cabins
with card.

long..
We can go to Tahiti with :AIR France, AIR NEW ZEALAND, LAN CHILE, AIR
CALEDONIE INTERNATIONAL, QANTAS AIRWAYS, HAWAIIAN AIRLINES, TAHITI AIRLINES
(AIR TAHITI NUI).
From TAHITI FAA’A airport, you have to take a plane to Fakarava (About
1h10)
There is a fly to Fakarava on mondays, wednesdays and fridays by Air Tahiti.
